During this scholastic year, the EkoSkola committee will be working on 2 different projects, namely the We Eat Responsibly (WER) project and the LEAF (LEarning About Forests) project. (2 Photos Committee & Committee Meetings)
With regard to the WER project, which is in its second year, the action team will be encouraging the school, home and local community to eat more seasonal and local products, to compost food left overs and to reduce food wastage. This year, the WER project was launched on 17th October during Morning Assembly, during which Year 5.1 put forward a presentation on Zero Hunger Awareness, food security and climate change to commemorate World Food day, celebrated on 16th October. (Photo Assembly) The LEAF (LEarning About Forests) project is a new venture for our school. The aim of this initiative is to foster and increase love and awareness for endemic and indigenous trees. Within the EkoSkola Committee, a number of Tree Troopers have been selected to encourage the school community to develop and reinforce connections with parents and the community, informing them about our green initiatives and spreading the LEAF message. A survey has already been carried out to assess the level of tree awareness , what kind of trees can be found at school and to find out about any shortcomings. (3 Photos - LEAf & Tree survey) During the months of November and December, a No Christmas Card event is being organised. Instead of buying Christmas cards, pupils are encouraged to prepare a card themselves for the whole class using recyclable material and to give a 50c donation. With the money collected, a native tree will be planted in each of the school yards next January. Comments are closed.
