Student's CouncilDingli primary school - has the student's council which is co-ordinated by Mrs.Farrugia. We have a big Box - A Blue one - near the office's Head for all suggestions from the whole school. Everyone can put a note to suggest any activities that wishes to be performed during the school hours or during Mid-Day Break. Then we will discuss them later on together with the Head of school. The President of the student's council is Thomas Abela and there are Nicole, Kim, Shania, Julian, Kieran and Martina as members. The student's council meets on Friday, (every fortnight) during mid-day break. We meet in the complimentary classroom and discuss together activities which can be held at school. We have already done a fund-raising activity during the parent's evening with coffee and muffins. All the student's council members helped and L.S.A. and teachers helped too. This was a successful event and look forward to discuss more activities for fund raising within the school. During the Christmas activities we are going to perform a friendly football match between Boys and Girls, Year 4's, 5's and 6 are going to participate. We are looking forward to perform a FUN Run around Dingli - Another fund - raising activity after the Christmas holidays collecting 50c from those who are going to participate. Looking Forward to 'Have a Say',' Be Heard', and make a - Difference. Mrs.Antonia Farrugia. Co-ordinator, Student's council. Student's Council members:
Yr 4: Cherise Degiorgio, Logan Guntrip Yr 5: Nicole Gauci, Julian Caruana, Shanaia Abela, Kieran Pisani Yr 6: Thomas Abela The feast of St. Nicholas is celebrated on the 6th of December. It happens that our college is named after St. Nicholas. Liam Rieck Zahra a student in the Year 3.1 class (Ms. Daniela) brought gifts to the whole class on this day all the way from Germany and kindly translated to us the meaning of the words from German to English to help us learn more about St. Nicholas.
During this scholastic year, the EkoSkola committee will be working on 2 different projects, namely the We Eat Responsibly (WER) project and the LEAF (LEarning About Forests) project. (2 Photos Committee & Committee Meetings)
With regard to the WER project, which is in its second year, the action team will be encouraging the school, home and local community to eat more seasonal and local products, to compost food left overs and to reduce food wastage. This year, the WER project was launched on 17th October during Morning Assembly, during which Year 5.1 put forward a presentation on Zero Hunger Awareness, food security and climate change to commemorate World Food day, celebrated on 16th October. (Photo Assembly) The LEAF (LEarning About Forests) project is a new venture for our school. The aim of this initiative is to foster and increase love and awareness for endemic and indigenous trees. Within the EkoSkola Committee, a number of Tree Troopers have been selected to encourage the school community to develop and reinforce connections with parents and the community, informing them about our green initiatives and spreading the LEAF message. A survey has already been carried out to assess the level of tree awareness , what kind of trees can be found at school and to find out about any shortcomings. (3 Photos - LEAf & Tree survey) During the months of November and December, a No Christmas Card event is being organised. Instead of buying Christmas cards, pupils are encouraged to prepare a card themselves for the whole class using recyclable material and to give a 50c donation. With the money collected, a native tree will be planted in each of the school yards next January. Nhar it‑Tlieta 6 ta’ Diċembru 2016, l-Arċisqof Charles J.
