The Parish Church of Dingli is dedicated to the Assumption of St. Mary. Built in 1605, this church is situated on one of the highest locations on the islands. Consequently, this church and the surrounding can be seen from several kilometres away. Between 1678 and 1680, the Church was enlarged extensively, and then modified again towards the end of the 19th century.

The Dingli Cliffs are the highest point in  the Maltese Islands. The area is very popular for country walks and picnics during holidays periods. It offers beautiful sea views of the uninhabited isle of Filfla and also views of nearby Buskett Gardens and Verdala Palace, the summer residence of the President of the Republic. The chapel of St Magdalena, built around 1646, is located at the edge of these cliffs.

Picture
St. Mary Magdalene Chapel was built on the cliff edge in 1646. On July 22nd, a Mass is said to commemorate the feast of the Saint. It was a tradition to visit the Chapel on Passion Sunday.  This chapel has been recently restored. A number of cart ruts may be seen close to the chapel.

Picture
The cart ruts may have been caused by wooden-wheeled carts eroding soft limestone. These cart ruts are up to 60cm deep. Some cross lines while others form junctions. This creates the illusion of a great railway station. In fact, the ruts show a planned transport system of cargo transport, a sign of a relatively advanced community for the time.

Verdala Palace was built towards the end of the sixteenth century by Grandmaster Hughes Loubenx De Verdalle. It is surrounded by Buskett Gardens. The British Governor, Sir William Reid, restored this palace during mid-nineteenth century. Since 1987 Verdala Palace has been the official summer residence of the President of Malta.

The Dingli Aviation Radar, known also as the Golf Ball, is located at Triq  Panoramika, Dingli. This site is nowadays operated by Malta Air Traffic Services and is easily accessible as it lies on the path of a popular walk along Dingli Cliffs on the south of the island. During World War II served as one of several Royal Air Force radar stations that were sited on various parts of the island and which were a very important part of Malta’s war history and the early air raid warnings that saved many Maltese lives in the Second World War.
